Both things are awesome, but there’s a key difference: A companion album are songs written for and about the movie, or songs that fit the movie very well. Kind of like a themed mix CD. A soundtrack has songs that are in the actual film, also known as a “Score.”
So the instrumentals that play throughout the movie are on the soundtrack, but songs like “Safe and Sound” are going to be...
